This recording consists of Nancy Adamson's interview with Donna Phoenix, 2 May 1992. [The interview takes place outside, and there is occasionally significant noise interference due to the wind.] Donna discusses moving to Thunder Bay in 1974 with her daughter Tanya from Guelph ; her previous work as a nurse ; her involvement with and the history of the [Northern] Women's Centre, the Women's Space, and the [Northern Women’s] Bookstore; the role of the Centre in Thunder Bay, its funding and how the space was used ; the history of the women's movement in the region ; CARAL [Canadian Abortion Rights Action League], including providing birth control talks at schools and to the public, reception to these talks, the visits of Dr. Henry Morgentaler and [Megan McGuire?] of Catholics for Free Choice, as well as the state of pro-choice advocacy in 1992 ; and more. There is another person present during the recording [Tanya?] who speaks briefly [around 00:21:50 to 00:22:30]. In the later half of the recording, Donna discusses the work of a collective to publish the journal [Northern Woman Journal - originally called Northern Woman, 1973-1995]. Throughout the recording, other individuals, organizations and groups of the region are mentioned.
