Connie Clement is a retired feminist health worker whose career spans decades in public health and health equity. Clement identified as a feminist during her secondary and university years when she volunteered for sexual health initiatives and helped found a women’s centre. Clement also acted as a collective founding member of the feminist magazine, “Healthsharing,” helping further the women’s health movement in Canada.
In 1983, Clement began her career at Toronto Public Health (TPH), as a Family Planning Community Worker. Clement became the Toronto Public Health Director, Planning & Policy, before accepting a position with Health Nexus, as Executive Director, in 2000. At Health Nexus, Clement worked on consultation, policy development, health equity, and early child development.
In 2009, Connie Clement became Executive Director of Social Venture Partners Toronto, before moving on to become Scientific Director of the National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health (NCCDH)—an organization that identifies social determinants of health and facilitates health equity. Clement retired in 2019, although she remains active in her community of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, working since 2021 for the Antigonish Affordable Housing Society.
Connie Clement est une travailleuse de la santé féministe à la retraite dont la carrière s'étend sur plusieurs décennies dans le domaine de la santé publique et de l'équité en matière de santé. En 1983, Mme Clement a commencé sa carrière à la Toronto Public Health (TPH), en tant que travailleuse communautaire chargée de la planification familiale. Elle devient directrice de la planification et de la politique de la santé publique de Toronto, avant d'accepter un poste de directrice exécutive chez Health Nexus en 2000. À Health Nexus, Connie Clement a travaillé sur la consultation, l'élaboration de politiques, l'équité en matière de santé et le développement de la petite enfance.
En 2009, Connie Clement est devenue directrice générale de Social Venture Partners Toronto, avant de devenir directrice scientifique du Centre de collaboration nationale des déterminants de la santé (CCNDS), une organisation qui identifie les déterminants sociaux de la santé et facilite l'équité en matière de santé. Mme Clement a pris sa retraite en 2019, tout en restant active dans sa communauté d'Antigonish, en Nouvelle-Écosse, où elle travaille depuis 2021 pour l'Antigonish Affordable Housing Society.
