História biográfica

Stevens Noreen graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1985. She holds a degree in Interior Design. As a committed lesbian feminist, she worked to share her skills with community organizations that supported LGBTQ+ equality issues, feminist values and progressive social change. She developed a design practice by supporting such community organizations, opening Winnipeg's first LGBTQ+ restaurant (Winona's Coffee & Ice) and creating a bi-weekly comic strip, The Chosen Family, which was published in the LGBTQ+ and feminist press across North America from 1988 to 2004.
In the spring of 1986, she was approached by Brenda Sinclair (wife Pauls) to collaborate on a logo, advertising and other branding materials for Bold Print, a women's bookstore she was opening in partnership with Joan Turner in Winnipeg. Brenda Sinclair was her contact at Bold Print, and they met several times in the months leading up to and following the opening of Bold Print.
In collaboration with Brenda Sinclair, Noreen Stevens developed an advertising campaign for the Bold Print bookstore and designed various promotional materials. Noreen Stevens was also responsible for the interior design and layout of the bookstore, which was subsequently completed by John Stockwell.

Brenda J. Pauls (Nee Sinclair) received her Masters Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Manitoba in 1985. Her studies focused on counselling and adult education. She has had a lifelong interest in supporting women's learning, awareness and growth. She took two courses offered by Joan Turner, who was an instructor at the School of Social Work at the time. Later, Joan hired her as a teaching assistant for the Interpersonal Communication Skills course. They became friends and discussed their dream of creating a women's resource center in Winnipeg. They decided to start a women's bookstore in a rented commercial space in the Osborne Village area of Winnipeg. Brenda became a founding partner of Bold Print, a women's bookstore that operated in Winnipeg from 1986 to 1994. Brenda brought in Noreen Stevens, an interior designer and graphic artist, Nancy Reinholdt, a social worker, and John Stockwell, a carpenter, to collaborate on the project. She volunteered her time to set up the bookstore and took on a paid management role for a year and a half after the bookstore opened on August 7, 1986.
