Biographical history

After graduating from the University of British Columbia, l'Université Laval and the University of Toronto, Caroline Andrew became a distinguished member of the Ottawa and Canadian political science communities and an internationally recognized expert on municipal politics, governance, feminism and urban issues. Caroline was Professor of Political Science, Dean of Social Sciences and Director of the Centre on Governance at the University of Ottawa. She was an active member of the Canadian Political Science Association. In 1984 she moderated the first and only national leaders' debate on women's issues. Caroline Andrew was also the co-chair of the Steering Committee for the Women's World Congress held at the University of Ottawa in 2011. In 2015 she was invested into the Order of Canada. She died in 2022.

Caroline a été professeur de sciences politiques, doyenne de la faculté des sciences sociales et directrice du Centre sur la gouvernance à l'Université d'Ottawa. Elle était un membre actif de l'Association canadienne de science politique. En 1984, elle a animé le premier et unique débat national des leaders sur les questions féminines. Caroline Andrew a également coprésidé le comité directeur du Congrès mondial des femmes qui s'est tenu à l'Université d'Ottawa en 2011. En 2015, elle a été investie dans l'Ordre du Canada. Elle est décédée en 2022.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of records related mainly to the organization and planning of the 2011 Women's Worlds Congress held at the University of Ottawa, co-chaired by Professor Caroline Andrew. Records relate to funding and financial support, financial auditing, and planning and include meeting minutes, reports, correspondence etc. Included also are handouts from the congress, final reports and summary documents from after the congress was held. The fonds also contains some records related to prior and subsequent Women's World Congresses.

The Women’s Worlds congress was the first world-wide interdisciplinary gathering to focus on research pertaining to women’s issues and started in 1981. WW takes place every three years in a different part of the world.

Le fonds comprend des documents liés principalement à l'organisation et à la planification du Congrès mondial des femmes de 2011 qui s'est tenu à l'Université d'Ottawa, sous la coprésidence de la professeure Caroline Andrew.
