This file contains correspondences relating to a publication by Susan Mann. Originally her thesis, "L'Action française: l'appelle à la race," Mann edited and published a version in English in 1976 titled: "Action Francaise: French Canadian Nationalism in the Twenties" by Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 1975.
This file contains drafts of chapter 14 from Deam of Nation, including a manuscript and typed version, annotated and with additional notes. A note in the file from 10 April 2017 by Susan Mann states: "I recall this chapter 14 being one of the more difficult to write, probably because my PhD thesis had been on the Canadian Action francaise (published as AF French Canadian Nationalism in the 1920s (UTP 1975) and translated as Lionel Groulx et l'Action francaise (VLB 2005) and I probably knew too much and so had a hard time boiling it down to chapter length. I see also that at this point, a second grad. student took ofer from [E] (who moved to Toronto) to do the checking of names, dates, details, etc. [A. C.] used 'fiches' for his notes, rather than writing directly on my list of queries (see earlier chapters). I've kept only one 'fiche' chosen at random, as a sample."
This file contains drafts of chapter 8 from Deam of Nation, including a manuscript and typed version, annotated and with additional notes. A note in the file from 10 April 2017 by Susan Mann states: "The four photocopied pages in this typed second draft (24-27) were made because of much scotch-tape on the original. A no-no for archives, I gather. I can't, at this distance, imagine my first handwritten draft being so "clean." I suspect there were many scrunched up balls of paper tossed over my shoulder as I wrestled with the writing ~writing is the wront term~ the process of writing was magical."
