This file contains drafts of chapter 20 from Deam of Nation, including a manuscript and typed version, annotated and with additional notes. A note in the file from 11 April 2017 by Susan Mann states: "Well, well, this is interesting: two handwritten drafts before the typed/revised one. That must indicate that this ch.20, the closest in time to when I was writing (1981), was the most difficult to write. I vaguely recall critics saying this ch. was a bit confusing... perhaps the 2 mss. drafts suggest they were right. Without rereading it, now some 36 years later, I would hazard a guess that the attempt to integrate feminism into the political story was just too much for nationalist/male critics to take. Since then, many a study has looked at feminism and nationalism. This may have been one of first attempts."
