This is an audiovisual recording of a presentation by Dr. Pat Kincaid at the "Family Violence Conference on Issues and Education" held September 27th and 28, 1990. This conference brought together educators and advocates at Quetico Park, Atikokan, Ontario. It was hosted by NOWDC and the Atikokan School Board, and was facilitated by NOWDC. It also brought together shelter workers and school personnel from that district. Dr. Kincaid's presentation, entitled "The Importance of Understanding: Kids Can't Learn while Dealing with Family Violence," that focused on the effects of family violence on kids education and interaction in the school environment. Dr. Kincade uses personal examples from her time as an educator to illustrate the need for more intervention in schools to help students affected by family violence.

Alison's presentation, entitled "Pornography and Family Violence," focused on how we are teaching children, boys specifically, about violence and pornography. She speaks of statistics and the language that is used to speak to young boys on the subject of violence in the home, whether sexual or physical.

The goal of the plenary was to discuss what to do with recommendations and comments that came out of the workshops such as women and disability, aging, etc. The Workshop leaders announced motions that were subsequently voted on by all participants of the conference.

This is an audiovisual recording of a the keynote presentation by Dr. Glenda Simms delivered at the Women Uniting for Change Conference. Dr. Simms was an advocate for indigenous peoples, women, and especially minority and immigrant women. Her keynote speech was a call to arms for women to vote, participate, and continue the fight for equity, reproductive rights and new technologies, especially in regards to minorities, and finally about violence against women.

This is an audiovisual recording of a presentation "The Effects of Wife Assault on Children," delivered by Sheila Cameron at the Connections Conference, hosted by NOWDC. The Connections Conference took place in Thunder Bay, the first conference bringing together shelter workers and educational experts. Using a Toronto Wife Assault case (Inglewood) as a jumping point, Cameron discusses the impact of intimate partner violence on children including how it is perceived, the cycle of violence, and the statistics. Her department created a study of children who experienced violence in the home and their responses to that violence.

This is an audiovisual recording of a presentation put on by Women's Place Kenora on economic inequality, especially in northern Ontario areas such as Kenora. Charlotte Holm makes introductions and presents journalist Linda McQuaig, who wrote about equality and the economy. McQuaig speaks on the inequalities of wealth as well as the taboo that developed when bringing up subjects of inequality. McQuaig talks about the deficit, the alternative budget, and what can be done to improve the issues with higher poverty rates. The speech is followed by a question and answer period.
