Scope and content

This is an audiovisual recording of a presentation by Dr. Pat Kincaid at the "Family Violence Conference on Issues and Education" held September 27th and 28, 1990. This conference brought together educators and advocates at Quetico Park, Atikokan, Ontario. It was hosted by NOWDC and the Atikokan School Board, and was facilitated by NOWDC. It also brought together shelter workers and school personnel from that district. Dr. Kincaid's presentation, entitled "The Importance of Understanding: Kids Can't Learn while Dealing with Family Violence," that focused on the effects of family violence on kids education and interaction in the school environment. Dr. Kincade uses personal examples from her time as an educator to illustrate the need for more intervention in schools to help students affected by family violence.
