Silent Film Music Collection

The bulk of the collection is comprised of sheet music for mostly piano or orchestra, published between 1883 and 1946 (approximately a third of which was published in the 1920s) for the purposes of performance during the screening of silent films. Handwritten notes and cues, as well as stamps are found on many sheets, which have been identified. Some of the items are of collections of music specifically written and published for the purpose of motion pictures. Also included are cue sheets and instruction manuals, folders with advertisements, letters from editors, as well as a program for the 2014 screening of “The Cat and the Canary” with small orchestra at the University of Ottawa School of Music, sums up the Silent Film Music collection.

A Lady of Chance

This item contains a 4-page thematic music cue sheet for the Robert Z. Leonard Production with Lowell Sherman, John Mack Brown and Gwen Lee in "A Lady of Chance", from the story "Little Angel" by Leroy Scott, adaptation by Edmund Goulding, scenario by A. P. Younger, directed by Robert Z. Leonard, a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. "Length of film (6991 feet, 8 reels). Maximum projection time 1 hour, 20 minutes)." The compilation include 36 cues. Several bits of the pages are missing. The handwritten inscriptions "363", "Danse orientale", "364" and "Serenade Espagnole. Bizet" have been added in ink and pencil multiple times on front and back sheets. Series: Thematic Music Cue Sheet.

This item contains 2-page sheet music for orchestral piano with lyrics, publisher number F. & D. Ltd. 17117. A scribble was added in graphite pencil. Orchestral Journal No. 2264.
