The fonds documents Valerie Overend’s career and her involvement in promoting girls and women in non traditional careers, as well as in science, technology and engineering. The fonds mainly consists of graphic and textual records. It includes training programs, curricula, workshop materials, survey and reports, essays, and publications.

Series 1 to 10 consists of resources used by Valerie Overend in her own research and work to produce informational and educational materials. Some documents were created by/or in collaboration with Valerie Overend. However, most of the documents have been produced by other authors and related organizations.

Series 11 through 17 consist of records that document Valerie Overend's work and accomplishments in developing various programs and initiatives that engaged her over 25 years. They contain youth and adult projects and programs, presentations and workshops. They inform about Valerie Overend’s interventions in various conferences, roundtables, and summits. Briefs, articles, and opinion pieces are also included.

Valerie Overend left a note with the documents: " These few documents provided the underpinnings for virtuallyall of the work that I designed, developed, delivered - both jointly and individually - over a 30 year period. They provided the seeds of under standing from which grew the actions. I referred to them constantly and followed them closely." (2021)
The file includes National Standards for Generic Content for WITT courses, "Mechanical Reasing and Women" by Susan Booth (November 1981, "Out of the stream and into the river" by Marcia Braundy in CVA/ACFP Occational paper No. 4.

Speaker's Bureau - Workshop # 1

The file contains a manual. The manual was developped based on Saskwitt's speakers bureau project in partnership with SK Women's Secretariat. It includes background information and delivery methodology. The creation dates correspond to the workshop first delivery, in October 15-24, 1991.

She's Making Choices / Elle Fait ses choix

This file contains a video educator's kit, and two educator's kits: one kit in English, one in French.

The audience was all Saskatchewan schools with grades 7-9 classes recevied a copy - approximately 900 schools. Dozen of copies were sold to organisations and WITT groups across Canada.

Following the success of the first Speaker's Bureau (see the previous video activity booklet "She's Got Her Ticket"), SaskWITT produced another video with Live Wire Video Productions as well as a full Educator Kit, "She's Making Choices", for use in Saskatchewan shools and shared with WITT groups across Canada.

Speak-It kit

This file contains a booklet "Speak-It-Kit". The SaskWITT venture was funded by WITT NN.

Using the SaskWITT Speakers Bureau project as a foundation, the Speak-It-Kit provides background and history, a timeline for organizing, outlines and information for 2 speaker’s training sessions, and templates for 2 different workshops. Valerie Overend hired an unemployed SaskWITT member and mentored her to organize and write this document. Another SaskWITT member, an Industrial Designer organized it with them.
