    Administrative history

Serena was founded in 1955 by Gilles and Rita Henry-Breault, residents of Lachine, Québec, a couple who used the sympto-thermal method to manage their fertility. They soon realized that couples in their community wished to acquire this knowledge.
In 1962, the first team named Serena was organized. This organization expanded in Québec in the 1960s. This expansion was soon followed during the 1970s and 1980s by the remaining Canadian province, including Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Québec and Saskatchewan, thanks to Health Canada's funding.
In the 1990s, Health Canada discontinued its funding of Serena's activities. Serena is now a registered charity enabling couples to manage their fertility in a natural and effective manner based on knowledge and understanding of women's cycles. Serena is also dedicated to staying at the forefront of the scientific development to better understand women's cycles and to improve the sympto-thermal method.
    ---
