Scope and content
The series contains documents relating to a research project by Maureen Jessop Orton (co-researcher and co-director), Ellen Rosenblatt (co-researcher) and Maureen Leyland (co-director) which charted the impact of sexual health policy on teenage pregnancy and sexual health in Ontario. The study was commissioned by Planned Parenthood Ontario and was originally hosted at McMaster University. The project began in 1979 and was initially called the "Planned Parenthood Ontario Adolescent Pregnancy Research and Development Project."
The researchers published their first report in 1981, which was largely funded by Planned Parenthood, with some minor funding from pharmaceutical companies. In 1986, the second report was published, funded entirely by Health and Welfare Canada. In 1989, the project formally separated from Planned Parenthood and moved to the University of Toronto, after which it was renamed the "Ontario Study of Adolescent Pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Diseases." The third and fourth reports, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health, were subsequently published in 1991 and 1993, and the project ended in 1994 after 15 years.
