Biographical history

Monique Bégin was the executive secretary of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women and also served as a member of Parliament from 1972 to 1984. She served as Minister of Health and Welfare and as Minister of National Revenue.
In 1986 she was appointed as the first joint chair in Women's Studies at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. Bégin also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa.
She is the recipient of the Order of Canada and the Governor General's Award.

Monique Bégin a été secrétaire exécutive de la Commission royale d'enquête sur le statut de la femme et a également été membre du Parlement de 1972 à 1984. Elle a été ministre de la Santé et du Bien-être social et ministre du Revenu national.
En 1986, elle a été nommée première chaire conjointe d'études féminines à l'Université d'Ottawa et à l'Université Carleton. Mme Bégin a également été doyenne de la Faculté des sciences de la santé de l'Université d'Ottawa.
Elle est récipiendaire de l'Ordre du Canada et du Prix du Gouverneur général.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of two albums of commemorative stamps that were presented to Monique Bégin when she served as a Member of Parliament. Letters from the Minister of Canada Post accompany the albums. The first album contains stamps featuring Nellie McClung and the second album features Emily Stowe, Henrietta Edwards, Louise McKinney and Idola Saint-Jean.

Le fonds comprend deux albums de timbres commémoratifs qui ont été offerts à Monique Bégin lorsqu'elle était députée. Des lettres du ministre de Postes Canada accompagnent les albums.
