Women's Worlds Congress 2011 / Caroline Andrew fonds

The fonds consists of records related mainly to the organization and planning of the 2011 Women's Worlds Congress held at the University of Ottawa, co-chaired by Professor Caroline Andrew. Records relate to funding and financial support, financial auditing, and planning and include meeting minutes, reports, correspondence etc. Included also are handouts from the congress, final reports and summary documents from after the congress was held. The fonds also contains some records related to prior and subsequent Women's World Congresses.

The Women’s Worlds congress was the first world-wide interdisciplinary gathering to focus on research pertaining to women’s issues and started in 1981. WW takes place every three years in a different part of the world.

Donna F. Johnson Fonds

Johnson, a key figure in the creation of the Women's Monument. In response to the tragic 1989 Polytechnique Shooting, Johnson organized numerous vigils and played a role in the monument's establishment in Minto Park, Ottawa. It encompasses her 1998 conference paper, "How One Canadian Community is Responding to the Murder of Women," presented at the International Conference on Family Violence in Singapore. This work showcases the Women's Urgent Action group's proactive effort in combating male violence and addressing femicide. Spanning from 1990 to 2000, this fonds includes press notes, budgeting notices, and collaborative presentation ideas for monument planning and various vigils honoring women. Throughout, it provides insights into the community's efforts to minimize violence and honor its victims. The collection maintains its original order, inspired by the tabs of a binder created by the donor, Donna Johnson, showcasing monument preparation, vigil planning, and long-term initiatives to honor affected women.

The Recovered Memory Task Group (RMTG) fonds

The RMTG fonds is strong in resource material, including unpublished papers, brochures from related support groups and scholarly articles, relating to psychology and childhood cases of sexual abuse. The fonds also contains minimal RMTG administrative records in the form of meeting minutes as well as conference material for, “Surviving in a Climate of Disbelief: Recovered Memories, Therapy and the Law.”

Pat Petrala fonds

The Pat Petrala fonds contain records related to her involvement with numerous local and national women's groups. In addition to co-founding the Ottawa Women's Network, Petrala served on the board or otherwise collaborated with Ottawa Women's Place, the Ottawa Women's Credit Union, the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies, the Women's Network for Health and the Environment, and many other organizations and groups which are represented in the fonds. Patrala also helped to design and coordinate construction of the Women's Monument in Minto Park, and helped feminists in Vancouver to organize support for a monument commemorating victims of the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique Massacre. The fonds also contain records related to women's labour, addiction, women's shelters, women's health, domestic violence, immigrant and visible minority women, Indigenous women's activism, and more.
