This fonds consists of records produced and collected by Catherine Ahearn, the first poet Laureate of the City of Ottawa (1982-1984). A sous-fonds contains originals and copies of documents belonging to Jacques Baron (1905-1986), either purchased, sent or collected by Catherine Ahearn (b.1949). Among her records are drafts of some unpublished and published texts, diaries, correspondence, etc.

This fonds contains records related to Gay Bell's involvement with the early lesbian movement in Toronto, prisoners' rights activism, labour activism, and women's liberation. Including brochures, pamphlets, flyers, correspondence, buttons, and photographs related to the local instantiation of these movements in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Bell collected alternative publications and periodicals that detail their wider historical context. The fonds also contains scripts, rough notes, photographs, and newspaper articles related to Bell's theatrical performances, which were often innovative and sometimes controversial. When Bell donated these records in 2011, she included explanatory notes that provide detail and context for local events and initiative which have been lost to history. This fonds is thus invaluable for studying the early lesbian movement, queer involvement in labour organizing, prison activism, and the expanding purview of women's liberation in the last decades of the 20th century. -- Ce fonds contient des documents relatifs à l'implication de Gay Bell dans le premier mouvement lesbien à Toronto, le militantisme pour les droits des prisonniers, le militantisme syndical et la libération des femmes. The fonds consists of documents related to Maureen Jessop Orton's Ph.D thesis (1988-1991) and research projects she worked on, particularly a long-running project on adolescent pregnancy and sexual health in Ontario (1979-1994), as well as a smaller project for the Sexual Health Network of Ontario (SHNO) on the Ontario government's downloading of public health services to municipalities (1999-2001). The fonds includes correspondence, data sheets, newspaper clippings, many research documents and some sex education materials. The collection has a significant amount of material tangentially related to the adolescent pregnancy project, such as documents relating to Orton serving as an expert witness at the Morgentaler trial and the Planned Parenthood of Newfoundland and Labrador libel trial, Orton's conference presentations, and documents related to lobbying efforts by the project members regarding sexual health policy in Ontario.

The fonds mainly consists of trial transcripts used by Elizabeth Sheehy for her research about violence against women. The trials focus on instances of mariticide following abuse. This research culminated in her book Defending Battered Women on Trial: Lessons for the Transcripts published by UBC press in 2014. The fonds also contains newspaper clippings related to violence against women, homicide [particularly where women have killed their abusers (mariticide)].
