The fonds consists of documents providing an intimate insight of the efforts and struggles of the Gleiman's family members during various major historical events that took place in Europe (Slovakia, Austria, Italy, etc.) and depicting events such as deportation, living in a war camp, emigrating to a foreign and adjusting to a new lifestyle and customs. It contains eleven diaries written by Jan Gleiman (1893-1983) and his son Lubomir Gleiman (1923-2006)'s memoirs.
These records offer information relevant to the Women’s March Against Poverty in June 1996, and the World March of Women in 2000. Material in this collection dates from October 1995 through to 2000. The papers were compiled by the head office of the Canadian Labour Congress, as well as local offices throughout the region. The records reflect all organizing strategies which took place prior to the marches, as well as the organization of the marches, and organization of post-march activities and events. This fonds consists of interviews with Florence Bird, Micheline Dumont, Doris Anderson, and other women, which relate to the Royal Commission on the Status of Women, the National Action Committee on the Status of Women, and the Canadian Charter of Rights. Interviews and recordings were conducted by Patrice LeClerc in the late 1980s, in preparation for her thesis.
