L’Association de la francophonie à propos des femmes en sciences, technologies, ingénierie et mathématiques (AFFESTIM) a été officiellement lancée le 31 octobre 2003 à Trois-Rivières lors du Colloque Sciences, Technologies, Ingénierie et Mathématiques : des réflexions et des actions pour la relève. Elle est créée pour donner suite à une résolution des participantes de la Table-Ronde du Québec lors de l’International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists (ICWES 12 – Ottawa, juillet 2002).
Le comité organisateur est composé de Louise Lafortune du Mouvement international pour les femmes et l’enseignement des mathématiques (MOIFEM, 1986-2003), de Claire Deschênes de la Chaire CRSNG/Alcan (1997-2006), et de Marie Bernard de la Chaire Marianne-Mareschal (1998-2016). Claire Deschênes devient la première présidente de l'AFFESTIM jusqu'en 2010 et secrétaire-trésorière jusqu'en 2018. Liette Vasseur succède à Claire Deschênes à la présidente de 2011 à 2013, suivie d’Anne Roy (2013-2014), de Marie Laroche (2015-2018). Claire Deschênes sera de nouveau présidente de l’association à partir de 2018 jusqu’à aujourd’hui.
La mission de l'association est de "regrouper des personnes physique ou morales, dans la francophonie, intéressées à promouvoir la participation, la rétention et l'avancement des femmes dans les champs liés aux STIM (Sciences, Technologies, Ingénierie et Mathématiques)". Ses objectifs sont de créer un réseau de la francophonie à propos des femmes en STIM, promouvoir l'accès et la rétention des femmes en STIM par des projets mobilisateurs et innovateurs, favoriser un réseau de personnes acceptant de devenir des modèles ou des mentors en STIM, réaliser des analyses et des recherches interdisciplinaires dans le domaine des femmes en STIM, promouvoir des pratiques et des stratégies innovatrices en milieu de travail et dans le domaine de l'éducation à propos des femmes en STIM, produire et diffuser des avis scientifiques sur les femmes en STIM. L’AFFESTIM revêt un caractère national puisqu’elle regroupe des membres des provinces du Nouveau-Brunswick, de la Nouvelle-Écosse, de l’Ontario et du Québec. (Source: AFFESTIM. L’association est membre de l’International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES).

The Association de la francophonie à propos des femmes en sciences, technologies, ingénierie et mathématiques (AFFESTIM) was officially launched on October 31, 2003 in Trois-Rivières during the Colloque Sciences, Technologies, Ingénierie et Mathématiques : des réflexions et des actions pour la relève. It was created in response to a resolution of the participants of the Quebec Round Table at the International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists (ICWES 12 - Ottawa, July 2002).
The organizing committee is composed of Louise Lafortune of the Mouvement international pour les femmes et l'enseignement des mathématiques (MOIFEM, 1986-2003), Claire Deschênes of the NSERC/Alcan Chair (1997-2006), and Marie Bernard of the Marianne-Mareschal Chair (1998-2016). Claire Deschênes became the first president of AFFESTIM until 2010 and secretary-treasurer until 2018. Liette Vasseur succeeds Claire Deschênes as president from 2011 to 2013, followed by Anne Roy (2013-2014), Marie Laroche (2015-2018). Claire Deschênes will again be president of the association from 2018 until today.
The mission of the association is "to bring together individuals and organizations in the French-speaking world interested in promoting the participation, retention and advancement of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related fields". Its objectives are to create a network of the Francophonie about women in STEM, to promote access and retention of women in STEM through mobilizing and innovative projects, to foster a network of people willing to become role models or mentors in STEM, to carry out interdisciplinary analysis and research in the field of women in STEM, to promote innovative practices and strategies in the workplace and in education about women in STEM, to produce and disseminate scientific opinions about women in STEM.
